Proposed Safe Housing Program

Provide Input on the Safe Housing Program

The City of Desert Hot Springs is currently faced with substandard and deteriorated housing conditions in its residential neighborhoods.  The City wants to respond to complaints and concerns that have been raised by individuals regarding rental housing units.  To address this issue, the City of Desert Hot Springs is proposing a Safe Housing Program Ordinance whereby all of the City’s rental housing stock would be inspected by the City for violations of the City’s Municipal Code, State Health and Safety Codes and any other regulations applicable to buildings used for human habitation.  The purpose of this Ordinance is to improve housing conditions, ensure compliance with state and local housing laws, eliminate blight, preserve property values and promote the public’s health, safety and welfare to ensure that residential rental properties are adequately maintained in a safe manner for its habitants.

The City has prepared a Draft Ordinance and Fees and wants to provide the public the opportunity for input.
