A ribbon-cutting was held today for a major new resort complex in Desert Hot Springs, Tyson Ranch.
Calling the site off of Palm Drive and Varner Road "breathtaking," former professional boxer Mike Tyson did the honors as Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas, City Council Member Russell Betts, City Council Member Gary Gardner, City Manager Chuck Maynard, and others looked on.
"This has been a long road coming," Tyson said. "
"We all persevered. We all did our jobs. We did our share of work. So let's call this Tyson Ranch!"
When completed, the ranch is expected to feature "luxury glamping," the "world's largest lazy river," a wave pool complex, a golf complex, an indoor family water resort, a sports and concert arena, entertainment and retail, an Amtrak stop, and much more.
Fire Chief Eddy Moore, Mayor Matas, Council Member Gary Gardner, Assistant to the City Manager Doria Wilms and City Manager Maynard (below) posed with a rendering of the potential footprint of the resort, located just off of I-10.
In the meantime, the site will host the KIND Music Festival tomorrow from 2 - 10 pm, featuring major acts including Miguel, A$AP Ferg, and more.
