The City of Desert Hot Springs is pleased to share the details of the top revenue sources for Desert Hot Springs.

In Fiscal year 2018/2019, the City saw revenues of $13,054,947, an increase from $11,378,568 in 2017/2018 and $10,228,554 in 2016/2017.

While the cannabis industry has been instrumental in that growth, despite popular misconception, that is not the only factor driving revenue in Desert Hot Springs.

In 2018-2019, for example, cannabis taxes represented $2,899,988, or 22% of the City’s revenue. More revenue actually came from property taxes ($3,556,582). Additional sources of revenue included the Public Safety Parcel Tax ($2,380,607), Transient Occupancy Taxes ($2,235,629) and the Utility Users Tax ($1,982,141).

Cannabis tax revenue has increased in recent years, but tourism and development continue to provide significant and growing revenue for the City. Transient Occupancy Tax funds collected from hotel and short-term rental visitors have grown 26% since fiscal year 2016-2017. Property tax revenue has grown more than 25% in the same time.

With strong and increasingly diverse revenue sources, the future is bright for Desert Hot Springs.
