Fire Department

Fire services for the City of Desert Hot Springs are provided through a cooperative agreement with the State of California (Cal-Fire) and the County of Riverside.  The Riverside County Fire Department is a public safety agency dedicated to protecting life, property and the environment through professionalism, integrity, and efficiency.  The fire department consists of two stations and a fire marshal’s office located strategically in the city providing responses to fire suppression, emergency medical, fire prevention, education, investigations, and hazardous materials incidents, etc. For more information, please visit https://www.rvcfire.org/

The Office of the Fire Marshal is committed to facilitating fire and life safety solutions by empowering its employees to serve our community through innovation and partnershipThe Fire Safety Specialist serves as the City’s liaison with Riverside County providing support through a wide variety of fire safety responsibilities including: Review Planning Cases, Review and Inspection of Construction Development, Fire Life/Safety Inspections of State Regulated Occupancies, Review and Permitting of Special Events, Forms for Construction Inspections, Information on Ordinances and Standards for Construction, and Information Bulletins and Standards for Fire Protection in Riverside County.

Fire Plan Submittals

To submit plans and apply for a Fire Permit please visit https://deserthotspringsca.portal.opengov.com   Paper and mailed plans are no longer accepted.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  If you have any questions regarding how to submit or specific type of permit required, please contact 760-329-6411 and request to speak with a Fire Safety Specialist or Permit Technician.  Currently plan review turnaround times are 10 to 14 business days from the initial assignment date.

Knox Box

To place an order for a Knox Box, Key Switch or Padlock, please visit Knox Box Ordering for additional information. It is highly recommended to confirm with a Fire Safety Specialist the type of box, switch or padlock required for your location prior to ordering.

Fire Flow Report

Fire flow test reports are processed directly with the City's local water purveyor Mission Springs Water District (MSWD). Please visit their website at www.mswd.org/media/2916 to obtain an application or contact them by phone at (760) 329-6448 for more information.

Fire Inspection Requests

Inspections are made subject to availability.  Please have the permit number available when scheduling inspections.  Please call: (760) 329-6411 Ext. 244 or

All requests must be received no later than 2:00 P.M. for next day inspection except as follows:

Calls received on Thursday by 2:00 P.M. will be inspected the following Monday.

Any calls received after 2:00 P.M. and during the weekend will be inspected on Tuesday.
