LOCAL CONCERT SERIES CELEBRATES MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY WITH TWO CONCERTS IN FEBRUARY

FebFebruary 11 2024

Desert Hot Springs, January 29, 2024: Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts continues its tenth anniversary season with two concerts this February. Eclectic 11-member chamber ensemble Bridge to Everywhere brings its signature fusion of classical, jazz, and world music to Grace Church on Sunday, February 11 at 4pm in a program entitled Crossing Sonic Borders. And back by popular demand, the flute/guitar duo of Marley Eder and Mircea Gogoncea presents an energetic program of dance music from around the world on Sunday, February 25 at 4pm, also at Grace Church. More details and a complete schedule can be found at: https://www.dhsclassicalconcerts.org/2024 No tickets or reservations are required, but cash donations at the door are appreciated.

“We are thrilled to be able to present our most ambitious concert season to date,” said series Founder & Artistic Director, Danny Holt. Holt was recently honored by the City of Desert Hot Springs with a Proclamation marking January 21, 2024 as “Danny Holt Day” in recognition of a decade of cultural enrichment to the community through Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts.

Holt continued: “We are proud to be in our tenth season–a milestone that many small organizations such as ours never reach. Our concerts this February are especially exciting because they showcase the breadth of what ‘classical’ music is in the 21st century.”

A celebration of global interconnectedness, Crossing Sonic Borders will immerse audiences in diverse musical influences, seamlessly creating a tapestry of interwoven sounds. The program includes 5 original pieces by composers from the Bridge to Everywhere ensemble, with a wide array of influences such as the intricate melodies and rhythmic systems of Hindustani classical music, avant-garde electronics, the syncopation of Mexican Son Huasteco, the dance-like melodies of a Baroque chitarrone, the asymmetrical meters found in Greek and Balkan traditions, the polyrhythms of West African drumming, and the enchanting harmonies of Erik Satie. The program promises a unique experience that crosses sonic boundaries and creates an interconnected cross-cultural symphony.

Bridge to Everywhere is a Los Angeles-based chamber ensemble dedicated to supporting composers, performers, and educators who celebrate cultural diversity through interwoven musical traditions. Through collaborations, performances, and education programs, the organization strives to build bridges between instruments, genres, cultures, and people. At its core, Bridge to Everywhere is a movement to promote compassion and empathy through music. They aspire to use music to bring people together to celebrate our differences and find common ground. Furthermore, they believe that musical collaboration can serve as a model of how people from different backgrounds can work together to forge harmonious relationships. Through their engagements, they hope that audiences will find new connections between musical traditions, and in turn, each other.
