We will re-open on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Meanwhile, the Center will still continue to provide lunches for the seniors of DHS.
We have implemented the following lunch system, which requires a pickup:
Seniors must call anytime after 8:30 am to reserve a lunch spot for that day and to find out their pickup time. We will only have 8 people per half hour picking up lunches to prevent groups gathering.
We know that for many of you, this may be the only meal for the day. So we are asking you to come for the pickup while still taking the Governor's recommendation to self-quarantine very seriously.
We also have resumed our Farmer's Market program, with some updates for safety. The Farmer's Market will take place on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Seniors must call on the day before (Tuesday) the scheduled Farmer's Market to reserve their produce box and receive a pick up time for Wednesday distribution. Phone hours are from 8:15AM to 4:15PM and are on a first call, first serve basis. Please arrive at your scheduled pickup time and do not bring bags. Produce comes pre-packed in a twenty to twenty-five pound box. Staff members can help you bring the box to your vehicle. Program is for seniors only, 50+.
We also want to emphasize that while the Center itself is closed, the staff are very much here during business hours. If you have questions, need resources, or even just want someone to talk to, we are here to take your phone call. We also will be checking in on our members via phone.
This is a challenging time, but our community is strong and we will get through it together.
Founded on July 13, 1979, the Senior Center has been operated by Mizell under contract with the City of DHS since March 2017. It is a place where senior citizens can receive a variety of services and resources.
Please call (760) 329-0222 for more information regarding available programming and to be added to the email distribution list.
