Solar APP+

Licensed contractors can now submit residential roof-mounted photovoltaic designs and panel upgrades/change-outs for automated review through SolarAPP+

SolarAPP+ Eligibility

  • Main Dwelling Rooftop, Permitted, Residential Structures only
  • PV Systems that are less than 38.4kW
  • No Ballasted Systems
  • To see which systems are eligible, please refer to the SolarAPP+ Eligibility Checklist
  • Licensed Contractors only

Submit for Automated Review Through SolarAPP+

  • Register or sign in to SolarAPP+
  • Direct URL: solarapp.nrel.gov
  • Submit design
  • Pay fees (per project)
  • Download SolarAPP+ Approval Document
  • Apply here for Solar Permit through City permitting portal
  • Schedule Inspection with City Building Inspectors (when requesting an inspection, please provide the following information: Address, Desert Hot Springs Permit Number, Type of Inspection, Contact Person Name and Number, and Gate Code, if applicable)

SolarAPP+ Revisions

  • Submit your revision through SolarAPP+ first (solarapp.nrel.gov)
  • you will be provided with a revised SolarAPP+ Approval Document
  • TheĀ  initial processing fee charged by the SolarAPP+ website covers up to three (3) revisions
  • Update the SolarAPP+ Approval Document and Approval Number in your City Permit
  • If the scope of the revision makes the project ineligible for use of SolarAPP+, please contact the Building & Safety Division at permittechnician@cityofdhs.org to coordinate the revision submittal process

Important Notices

If you have already submitted an application for the project through the original Building & Safety – Residential Solar PV Permit Application, staff is working diligently to process these applications that are already in our system. Do not duplicate any applications that have been submitted to us previously. Please contact Building & Safety staff at permittechnician@cityofdhs.org for revisions to the projects. Do not submit revisions through SolarAPP+.
